Vaughan Williams's The Lark Ascending received a poetic and thoroughly idiomatic reading at the hands of Bulgarian violinist Liya Petrova. The orchestra laid the velvet-cushioned groundwork over which Petrova soared with elegant phrasing, silvery tone and exquisitely delivered top notes.

This pastoral romance, inspired by George Meredith's poem, was brought to life by the exquisite playing of soloist Liya Petrova. A Bulgarian violinist who won the 2016 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition, her performance was a delicate and soulful portrayal of the soaring skylark.
